The dark Web is a part of the internet that is not accessible through search engines and can only be accessed using a specific software and configuration. The dark Web is a subsection of the deep web.
Most commonly The Onion Routing (Tor) is used to access the deep web. Networks like Tor provide anonymous access, and I2P (The Invisible Internet Project) to host websites anonymously. The Dark Web is not the same as the deep web. Dark Web is even a smaller section of the deep. While the deep web is commonly used for legitimate day-to-day online activities, on the other hand, the dark web is mainly anonymous and is known for conducting illegal transactions.
The Dark Web uses complex systems that anonymize a user’s true IP address, making it very difficult to work out which websites a device has visited. The layered encryption of the dark web routes communications through large numbers of volunteer nodes. Each new node adds an extra layer of encryption ensuring that the identities and locations of users remain anonymous to everyone. Both hosts and visitors can connect anonymously on the dark web.
Almost all of the transactions that occur on the Dark Web are done using cryptocurrencies. Vendors on the Dark Web prefer using anonymous cryptocurrencies like Monero and Zcash. The infamous dark web marketplace The Silk Road pioneered the integration of crypto on the Dark Web. The website’s founder Ross Ulbricht, who is currently serving a life sentence in the US, launched The Silk Road in 2011 for users to sell and buy products and services completely anonymously.
